Ears, Nose, Throat
Ears, Nose, and Throat are the three organs that make up the human body.
Modern surgery has progressed to the point where the body of information and technical skills required have led to surgeons specialising in specific areas, usually an anatomical section of the body or, on rare occasions, a specific technique or patient type. Otolaryngology (ear, nose, and throat) is a medical speciality that deals with problems with the ears, nose, and throat. Specialists in this field have both surgical and medical training.
Tonsillectomy
The tonsils are part of the immune system and form a protective ring around the back of the mouth and nasal cavity. A tonsillectomy is a surgery that removes the tonsils and is occasionally required to address an underlying ailment. The tonsils trap pathogens like viruses and bacteria, preventing them from entering the body through the nose and mouth.
Ear Surgery
The most common reasons for ear surgery are to improve hearing, relieve pain from otitis media, or repair perforations. To correct congenital defects, less common operations are required. Surgical correction of certain types of conductive hearing loss is also an option. To find out if your hearing loss can be addressed surgically, you'll need to see an ENT specialist and an audiologist.
